About us

Ladder racing is a project designed to allow people to have fun in rowing boats. Everyone in a given part of the country is in one ladder - men, women, seniors, juniors, schools, clubs, fours, eights, scullers, pairs. The beauty of the ladder is you find your own level: you might be the leading quad, and sit 35th in the ladder. You might be the leading school, and sit 20th. It doesn't matter: you find your level and you have fun with the crews around you.

If you don't want to take part, there's no obligation. You will slip quietly down the ladder until you get to a level where others in your club who succeed you in your boat may decide that they want to get involved and challenge their way back up. If you really hate being on it, just mail us and we can take you off.

If your crew isn't there because we didn't know your club has a second IV or a third VIII, just let us know and we can add you in.

We realise that geographically, this works more easily in some places than others. If you're a Tideway club, it's all very easy. If you're in the South Coast Rowing Association, perhaps less so. If you can think of ways to improve the way things work in your area, just mail in and let us know and we will try to change it. We hope that clubs will find that they can visit each other, borrow boats, or meet up at regattas and maybe do race bursts as a challenge, or find other ways to have a bit of friendly competitive fun.

You can even have a challenge within a regatta. If your crews finds itself in the same heat at a regatta as a crew within ten places on the ladder, maybe you'll want to agree that the heat result counts as a challenge thrown down. That way, even if neither crew progresses in the regatta, the result feeds into a wider picture!

If you have any questions, get in touch. Have fun, and don't forget: make sure you are insured.

EMAIL UPDATES

We don't plan to do a lot of mailing out of information because once it is up and being used, the site and reporting mechanism should run itself, but if you want to get any updates we might have to send for any reason, please let us have your email address and we will use it purely to keep you informed.

Thanks for submitting!
